A polar vortex is headed for various parts of the country. Chicago and the midwest as a whole  is experiencing colder temperatures than Arctic. On Tuesday, wind chills are expected to be between -15 to -30, with a high of 3 degrees and a low of -22, and it will only get colder from there.  It is cold enough to freeze a pot of boiling water before it lands on the ground.This area is home to over 3 million people. There will be a huge chunk of the population out in the cold .

A polar vortex is a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles.In Chicago, Lyft is offering free rides to warming centers using the code CHIJAYDEN19, up to $25 per ride, through Friday. In Chicago there are several warming centers for those stuck in the cold.  Chicago Public School System has closed schools due to the cold.  USPS is not interrupted .  Extreme cold nor partial shutdowns can affect the mail service.This is for the record books on par with  the blizzards of 1978-1970.

  • Hot Beverages like tea or hot chocolate are ok.
  • Limit caffeinated beverages as they can dehydrate you

  • Soups replenish your vitamins and minerals
